A gorgeous book for cat lovers

There are, in my opinion, two kinds of cat books. There are the kind for people who want to breed and show them, and books for people who just love these little creatures and want to know how best to care for them. This beautifully photographed book covers breeds from the familiar (the Shorthair house cat) to the exotic (Peterbald or Donskoy, anyone?) There is an emphasis on health and care, with a lot of thought to the animals' personality. There are sections on feeding, socializing your cat, inherited disorders, training your cat. Everything lovers of cats need to keep their babies healthy and happy. I love this book.

A great gift to a cat lover.

This book is very much loved by my cat crazy daughter. She is almost 7, but reads 3-4th grade level, so she reads out loud from it all the time (hoping I'd get her a cat). Plenty of pictures and writings are good.

Complete Cat Breed Book

I was delightfully surprised at all the information contained in this book. Not only are the various breeds shown in lovely colored pictures, there is valuable information as to the health and idiosyncrasies of each breed. There is a section for American shorthairs and longhair non pedigree cats too. There is information on how to care for your cat when well or sick. I really like this book very much. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to know more about cats and how to take care of cats.

A Solid Sanskrit Grammar

This is probably the best all-round textbook for learning Sanskrit. Its closest
competitors are Goldman's "Devavanipraveshika" and Coulson's "Teach Yourself
Sanskrit". Maurer's work improves upon both in several ways: 1.It treats Sanskrit
in its Indo-European linguistic context, which will be a reason that many will
come to the study of the language. Previously Mayrhofer's "Sanskrit Grammar" or
Burrow's "Sanskrit Language", neither of which are pedagogic, had to be consulted
by a student interested in historical linguistics. 2.It presents the basic
grammar thoroughly with plentiful vocabulary and practice material for the
beginner. The reasons that prevent me from giving it five stars are these:
1. Price 2. Somewhat uninspired selection of readings. After all, with the
largest world literature, Maurer could have done better than relying on the old war-horse of "Nala and Damayanti", which continues the tradition of
Lanman's "Sanskrit Reader" of a century ago. Goldman, based as it is on the
"Ramayana" excels in this respect, as does Coulson which builds up to an
appreciation of Kalidasa. Few students these days will be satisfied with the
soupy Nala tale when the Bhagavad Gita, the Kama Sutra, the Upanishads and so
many more can be read in its place. Nonetheless, this is a highly recommended book for those who want a sensible, traditional grammar.

Best book for beginners

I teach Sanskrit in Canada, and I've tried using many different textbooks. My goal is to give the student a basic overview of the major components of Sanskrit as quickly as possible, and teach further using authentic Sanskrit literature. This book does exactly that. Instead of teaching grammar topics in the conventional order, it introduces advanced topics right at the beginning in a simplified way, so that students get used to recognizing their usage in context. It also has more thorough explanations of grammar topics than any book I've seen, and uses familiar English examples for comparison. excellent primer

i've been studying sanskrit on my own for 25 years and i own about a half dozen primers. this is an excellent primer, lots of useful charts and information. the pace of the lessons is reasonable for beginners, though wish the translation exercises were worked out maybe at the back of the book so student could check his/her work. two non-content problems: at $65 it's too pricey, and because of the number of pages (ca 850) the binding is thick and it's hard to keep the book open when working the exercises.

A Must Read for Coaches Too

I'm a high school coach and absolutely loved this book. I've read lots of basketball books for players and coaches and this is among the best - succint advice that is easy to understand. The book's format is ideal as the mini chapters make for easy reading and re-reading. I bought copies of this book for all of our returning players who are "into" basketball. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is committed to being a better basketball player or any coach who is committed to being a better coach.

Really did change me life

I read this book the year it came out. I was a sophomore in HS and not very good at basketball. To play with my friends, who lived for bball, I checked this book out of my HS library. I ended up checking it out at least 5 more times! I read it over and over again and applied what I learned on our Thursday and Saturday night church pick-up games. Within a few months I was 5x better, really. I never turned into a great scorer because my love was really passing, defense, and rebounding, and this book covers those so precisely and simply that it always stuck with me. Now that I'm coaching youth league, I went to look for this book hoping it was still in print. Thank God it is, and that it's as great as ever!

Robert's book is visually stimulating in colour and design and easy to understand.... This book would make any paper arts enthusiast want to start making paper theatres.. It also includes a Card Theatre that can be mailed.... Well done! The only problem I had was finding Mr. Burgess' website, the address must have changed.....

Very helpful guide

It's hard to find a decent book with patterns and meaurements for paper theatres, so it's a great thing to have this book - a great variety of models and kinds of theatres to build, advice for the beginner, and additional information about types of media. One thing that annoyed me was that some of the patterns didn't supply a few basic dimensions, and I had to guess - very risky with an art so precise. It also does a poor job of explaining what this fold or that cut is actually going to do for the theatre. Confusing stuff.

However, my first theatre was a success and looks lovely, and I'm in the process of making another one with doubled dimensions!

Great LitRPG

I love the litrpg genre, where people immerse themselves in a fully lifelike VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). I loved the Alterworld series by D. Rus, and when I heard this series (Way of the Shaman) by another Russian writer was being translated into English, I couldn't contain my excitement! I eagerly awaited its release and this book does not disappoint!

The main character is (unjustly) sentenced to prison for eight years. The world is economically dominated by a particular virtual reality game and prisoners are forced to mine raw ore for other players to buy off the government. Prisoners are given a random starting character (not of their choosing) and can feel all sensations, including pain. Prisoners may not leave their designated mine area except under specific and hard to achieve parole conditions.

The main character is given a fairly ridiculous main class (shaman) and a difficult to improve profession (jeweler). Much like the Korean novel Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, the main character must use his fortitude, gaming skills, and quirks of a despised class/profession to succeed against all odds.

I enjoyed this book so much that I practically read it in one sitting! I can't wait for more!

Extraordinarlly enjoyable

Like most I suspect, I troll the discount Kindle books looking for good enjoyable books under $5. Which was the price I remember paying when I used to go to the book store as a kid. The problem is of course that while many of the Kindle books are very inexpensive, they tend to be self published and extremely raw works. However, from time to time you find a gem. This book is one of those gems, well worth the money. It is in its own way, as good as Alter World by D. Rus. The main character is well developed and the other characters in the book are solid as well. The story is fast paced and I liked the fact that the main character has significant struggles, and the answer isn't always handed to him.....

A couple of minor issues -
I will point out that Survival Quest is a book about a person in a fantasy game, and there are if you haven't played these type of games yourself, some significant conceptual hurdles that aren't always well explained in the book. Additionally, there are a few grammatical and typo errors as well. I think the errors may have more to do with translation / moving into Kindle format than any failure on Mr. Mahanenko's part. There weren't many and it didn't detract from the story.

A fantastic read.(I read it in one sitting) .Great setup for a virtual reality story and the author knows how to excecute it well. Main character comes across as honorable and possesses an inner strenght to overcome the hardships in the story. I like this type of positive main characters that still have some small flaws.

This is my favourite book of 2015 so far....

Reclaiming the SEAL
Throughout reading this book Ed Sheeran's song Photograph kept playing though my head. After you read this story, you'll understand why.
it's a bittersweet reunion of two former lovers coming together over the suicide of a close friend. As Julie and Gabe come to grips with what they had when they had been together and what and who have driven them apart, they realize that they never truly knew "Butter". It's only after they make a handful of surprise discoveries while going through his things in his apartment that they are able to piece together what must have been going through his mind.
Spoiler Alert- as I try to write reviews without spoilers, this one is nearly impossible. Although I'm not spilling the beans entirely.

Butter suffers from a mental condition and he's had it all of his life, one that his mother suspected but wasn't sure of. He comes between his two best friends, wanting that love from Julie that she only has for his best friend- he comes between them in the worst way possible.
Neither Gabe and Julie would only love one another and now with being able to put the pieces of the puzzle that is Butter's suicide together, they slowly come back together as a couple and open up. Each let's the other know that they still are in love. I know that I've already said it, but the story is bittersweet. We see Lacey from the LNF novels and a fresh start after a training accident gone horribly wrong.

Overcoming Truths

When the person you knew for so long ends up being an armor made to hide from those who can change their life.

If you are a follower of J.M. Madden books you know some stories or aspects she just does not touch on or HAVE NOT touched on. Well this book has hit another level of goosebumps reality. Gabe and Julie story has it's HEA but the journey and the truths reveal in getting there will leave you feeling some type of way.

Reclaiming the SEAL, felt as if it was someone's story. A rehashing on what they experienced with the mix of friendship and love and how even though you know a person, you never really know them. My heart ached for Butter even though I wanted to dislike the role he played it was hard because his struggle was unimaginable and deeper than the eye could see. True friendship forgave but the hurt will always be there for all parties that knew and kept their opinions until the end. This was a great story and just WOWED me with the depth of the psychological impact it punched.

Potential to go somewhere but fell way short.

Let me first say I am a big J M Madden fan, I have loved all her other books. This on though was a big disappointment. It started well if not very depressing and had the opportunity to go somewhere but just didn't really. There were things in the story that just wouldn't happen and the whole thing concluded in a few pages leaving me really unsatisfied. It was all tied up in just too neat of a package. I will still buy this author's full length books but won't be purchasing any novella's unfortunately.

Probably the best book on Taoism & Meditation for beginners.

This is surely one of the best books on Enlightenment, Taoism and Meditation for the beginner that I have ever seen. Although, don't get me wrong, it is a must for anyone interested in these subjects. It gives many new insights, all with a clear explanation. The author gives out the goods on enlightenment and why meditation is so important. He describes the subject with a westerner's scientific point of view and equates enlightenment as the understanding of Reality Without Time (to see as a fourth dimensional being can see). To perceive all time in one moment. He gives the reasons why meditation is the best vehicle to understanding and spells everything out with sound logic. There is a thorough guide to meditation, with basic instructions on Chi Kung exercises, transfer of Ching to Chi (Lien Ching Hwa Chi), transfer of Chi to Shen (Lien Chi Hwa Shen) and Proceed from Shen to Void (Lien Shen Hwan Shiu). This book is truly full of many grand arguments, wise sayings, stories and is a vast source of inspiration. I highly recommend it.

I have known how to knit since I was a child, but I’ve mainly only finished Afghans and scarves. Never would I attempt anything with sleeves. Knitter’s Weaving Book tells me I can accomplish “going around the corner” by combining weaving and knitting.
It gives step-by-step instructions on making my own loom. Amazingly, I had almost all of the necessary items needed. (Actually, I have the straight pins, I just can’t find them.) I’m still practicing weaving, and I’m hoping to finish some mittens before winter ends.

Inspiring, Practical, and Applicable!

I'm so thankful I read this book! As a busy mom with 3 young kids, I felt like I was defeated by the list of all of the things I "should be" doing. Organizing You helped me to prioritize and assess what I really need to get done to be the best mom for my family and let go of all the rest of those unrealistic expectations. Shannon proves herself to be relatable, light hearted, and full of wisdom about how to simplify and de-clutter your mind, heart, and home and make more room for Jesus in the process. It was inspiring, full of practical suggestions, and easy to apply to real life. A must read for all moms!

A Must-Read For All Moms!

This is one of those rare books that as soon as I finished reading, I started it over again. There are so many great tips that you'll want to write them down or reference back to them time and again. Many organizational books can leave you feeling overwhelmed - this one did not. The author has a way of lifting you up and encouraging you to be the best mom you can be. And what mom couldn't use a little more encouragement in her life?
I loved this book!

A Must Read for Young Moms!

This is a great book on organizing and decluttering your life to make more room for Jesus. The author provides a free, 6 week group study packet if you email her. I led the study with a group of women who all really enjoyed the book and the tips Shannon gives. Definitely worth reading!
