Excellent for undergrad or graduate programs

I first bought this book in high school (sometime between 1999 and 2000), but I have used it numerous times since then. Currently I am enrolled in medical school, and it is one of my most important study tools, right up there with Netter's and Gray's. I highly recommend it. There are literally hundreds of questions on each topic, including head & neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, lower and upper extremities. In my version, there are numerous typos and one or two incorrect answers, so have a secondary reference handy in case you notice one, just to check yourself. But overall, it is very accurate and highly recommended in your test prep.

Fans of the 10 previous Sharpe novels will be delighted to have the up-from-the-ranks ex-colonel back. Five years after Waterloo ( Sharpe's Revenge ), Sharpe, living quietly en famille in Normandy, is asked by Dona Louisa Vivar to find her husband, last seen as a Spanish captain-general in rebellious Chile. En route to South America, Sharpe can't resist stopping at St. Helena to meet Napoleon, who charms Sharpe and his ex-sergeant, Patrick Harper, then asks them to carry a gift to an English settler in Chile. When they arrive, they are told Vivar is dead, and the corrupt man serving in his place accuses them of trying to pass a message from Napoleon to Chilean insurgents. Sharpe and Harper are shipped out on a Spanish frigate, which is captured by rebels led by the eponymous devil, Scottish Lord Cochrane, formerly of the Royal Navy, still the legendary scourge of the Spanish fleet. The ebullient, daring Cochrane sweeps Sharpe along in a series of breathtaking adventures on land and sea that ends with a smashing, against-the-odds rebel victory and the solution to Vivar's disappearance. Readers will be dazzled by the rollicking plot, period color and the atavistic thrill of terrific battle scenes right out of a Turner painting.

In the 11th Richard Sharpe novel, our intrepid hero finds himself in the Spanish colony of Chile during its fight for independence in 1820-21. Hired by the wife of a Spanish nobleman to locate her kidnapped husband, the captain-general of Chile, Sharpe and friend Patrick Harper sail halfway around the world on a mission complicated by political intrigue and corruption. Series fans will find the usual strong characterization and action sequences, but some scenes, particularly the storming of the forts protecting the harbor of Valdivia, seem undeveloped and lacking in Cornwell's customary detail. Public libraries should purchase according to demand.

The hero of Cornwell's Sharpe series (Sharpe's Revenge, etc.) reluctantly abandons his Norman hearth and home to search for an old friend gone missing in revolutionary Chile. En route to the new world, there's a stopover on St. Helena and a visit to Sharpe's old adversary, the imprisoned Bonaparte. The Napoleonic wars are over. The Corsican monster is safely imprisoned in the South Atlantic; Sharpe's unloved wife is safely settled back in England; and Lieutenant-Colonel Sharpe himself has happily settled into the role of gentleman-farmer, tending to the fields of his aristocratic French mistress, watching his illegitimate children frolic. The bucolic bliss ends, however, with the arrival of Louisa, Countess of Mouromorto, who has come from Spain to beg the retired British rifleman to sail to South America to search for her husband, Sharpe's old friend and comrade-in-arms Don Blas Vivar. The incorruptible Don Blas had gone to Chile to defend the rotten Spanish colonial government against upstart republicans, but he has not been seen or heard from in months. Since Louisa will pay handsomely for his services and since the chateau is in desperate need of repairs, Sharpe reluctantly accepts the commission, hires on his favorite old sergeant, Patrick Harper, and sails round the Horn. His reception is chilly. The colonial general, who should be helping Sharpe, makes nothing but trouble, and Sharpe eventually finds himself becoming more and more sympathetic to the rebels who fight under a disgraced Scottish nobleman. About the Author

Dr Jennifer Howell joined ACU in 2010 as Senior Lecturer in Educational Studies. Previously Dr Howell was a lecturer in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and teacher education at Queensland University of Technology. Dr Howell has been teaching for over 16 years, having originally starting out as a Secondary English and History teacher. Her research focuses on online communities, teacher professional development, elearning, mlearning, Web 2.0 technologies and electronic research methodology.

This review of Anders' book appeared in the October, 1997 edition of Choice Magazine: "In the definitive work on electric current ratings of cables, Anders, a research engineer at Ontario Hydro who has worked in this field for more than 20 years, puts together the latest advances in cable technology as well as information from the latest integrated electronic components standards to produce a very technically detailed work on this narrow topic. There are 12 chapters organized in three parts; each chapter has many useful references and is filled with equations and derivations. The basis for all cable ratings is heat production; as such, Anders discusses how the heat is produced and how to calcualte the resulting cable temperature in the first part of the book, "Modeling." The second part, "Evaluation of Parameters," shows how to calculate the electrical and thermal parameters of a cable needed for calculations presented in the first part. The final portion, "Advanced Topics, " covers special situations and numerical methods. This is an updated and more detailed book than B.M. Weedy's Thermal Design of Underground Systems (1988). An invitation to return...

Near the end of this text, Philip Fogarty SJ asks a question - 'Are priests no more than dinosaurs lumbering their way into extinction in a dying church?' Perhaps it is my imagination, but I have been hearing the correlated reference between religion and dinosaurs, Christianity and dinosaurs, or church and dinosaurs so often lately, that I'm beginning to wonder myself. What is happening in the world today?
There was an intriguing idea floated by a scholar of the Hebrew scriptures, who argued that, as one progressed chronologically through the scriptures, the actual presence of God became less and less; God appeared fewer times, spoke fewer times, even as references to God remained steady, or even increased.
This is not the case today. As Fogarty's title suggests, God seems to be missing. However, the consequent references to God in greater society have not increased to make up for this absence. Is it that we just don't care about God anymore? Is God not so much dead, as irrelevant?
Fogarty explores the attitudes in society today, heavily influenced by science, economics, politics, and psychology. There is a fundamental disconnect between what is being presented in church and what is being presented and held up as valuable and credible in the rest of society.
Even the ideas of miracles, the resurrection, the presence of God in community (at the very least, in the church) seem to have disappeared in modern culture. Even the 'old standby' ideas and preach-able topics of the church are gone. 'What ever happened to hell?' Fogarty asks, with some seriousness, as an example of how the church has re-categorised old ideas, in an attempt to make them more relevant without losing the power or meaning, but somehow missing the mark.
From the earliest time of religion, God existed in community - in fact, one of the intentions of creation, many theologians postulate, is that God desired and desires to be in community with other beings. Fogarty challenges the readers in his final section to look for and develop community, to develop communion with each other. This is not just a task for the laity, the people in the pews, but also for the people in the pulpits and at the altar. Are priests and pastors ready to preach the gospel, and live the gospel, that of love?
Fogarty uses the example of Jesus, saying that Jesus never tried to convert anyone, while recognising the faith that was present in them. This can serve as a model of interfaith and ecumenical dialogue. Fogarty also uses Rahner as a support for developing the idea of priesthood into that of being a community builder, and not simply an administrator of sacraments.
Overall, this book is an intriguing and inspiring look at the church inside and outside. Well-written and engaging, the book has a flow of spirit that invites the reader to address the questions beyond the words of the text. 'Who do you say I am?' Jesus asked. This question is still relevant today, as Fogarty commends to the readers the charge of building communities in which the Kingdom of God can become present.

Harris Kern is no new name to us anymore. He has touched so many people in so many different ways with his wise words through script. I have to say I read and follow Harris Kern as I am a big fan and he truly helped me take myself to the next level. But i have to say that this book is slightly different. It not only mentors you but makes you reflect more on what life is all about. I purchased the book a few weeks ago and once i started reading it i couldnt take it off my hands until i saw the back cover. Well done Harris Kern. You never seize to amaze me. And thank you for inspiring and guiding us. Looking forward to your next book as always.

This book is a good wakeup call

Very insightful and although at first I was skeptical about reading another self-help book, because I have read a few and years later I am still procrastinating and not always motivated to work on my goals. I tried using the author's anecdote by training my mind to live with urgency and it really helped me a lot. I learned quite a bit about holding yourself accountable in the author's previous book, but this one provides more details and is dedicated to helping you get off your butt and making something happen quickly before another ten years fly by and you haven't accomplished anything. This book is a good wakeup call. art

Another Winner

Outstanding, Harris Kern has done it again with his new book "Live Like You Are Dying"! This time he has written a book that is a clarion call to both young and old to get their a**s in gear, because time waits for no one. This book is chuck full of wisdom on how to accomplish more in your life in a shorter period of time, "before it's too late". :-) Throughout the book Harris doesn't hesitate to make all of his successes AND failures available to the reader as examples of what to do and what not to do in fufilling your goals. Harris will coach you all along the way as to what it will take to reach all of your goals, but he won't hold your hand or tolerate any excuses, in fact he covers almost any excuse that you can come up with, he's heard them all. Me, being a senior citizen, (did I just admit that? LOL) I need all of the help that I can get because time IS running out for me, and this book has all that I need to reach all of my goals.
