The stories about people at the top of their industries for innovation,cultivating talent & hiring practices are interesting.

I purchased this book after watching Sydney Finkelstein in an interview on one of the local Sunday morning business programs. I listened to Mr. Finkelstein speak about the qualities that great innovators and employers have in common and I knew I needed to get the book.

One thing that I found really interesting about Mr. Finkelstein's book is that no matter what industry you work, there are similar qualities in "Superbosses."

Mr. Finkelstein uses real life examples ranging from the newspaper industry, Ralph Lauren, Oracle, and chef's from restaurant's like Chez Panisse to define what a Superboss is and does.

Whether you are looking at the book because you are interested in data and research or you want to be a Superboss this is worth reading.

Mr. Finkelstein doesn't use a lot of jargon and he doesn't use a million big words, he gets to the point and his stories about people he considers at the top of their industries for innovation cultivating talent and hiring practices are very interesting.

This definitely will stay on my bookshelf and be highly recommended.

A peak into the lives of other leaders.

Good summaries on what makes a boss or a SUPER BOSS! Not my favorite read but one that give s little insight to other leaders lives. Author gets a little too political in the book for my taste but if you want a peak into leaders of major corporations this book would be worth a read.

I would recommend to anyone looking to improve their leadership skills.

About the Author
Jane Reimers has taught introductory financial accounting for over 20 years, to students with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. After earning her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where she first taught financial accounting, she spent four years at Duke, fourteen years at Florida State, and the past three years at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Her students have been traditional and non-traditional, and they have been accounting and other business majors, economics majors, fashion design majors, sports management majors, and even IRS employees who needed an introductory course in financial accounting. She has lectured in auditoriums, taught in small- and medium sized-classrooms, and coordinated an on-line course for hundreds of students. With an undergraduate degree in education and graduate degrees in accounting and a wealth of teaching experience, she has written a book for this exact time in the history of accounting education. She hopes both students and instructors come away with the enthusiasm and respect she has for accounting.

Good info, needlessly complicated

Accounting is rule-driven and reductive. It seeks to standardize. In practice, you don't reinvent the format of financial statements (cheats use omission or exaggeration, not novel formats). So why do academics and textbook publishers make beginners wade through obscure and idiosyncratic reimaginings of straightforward content instead of focusing on clearly conveying the real-world skills one would need to survive along enough to acquire nuance through experience? This introduction to accounting constantly derails relevant concepts with intrusive parentheticals and asides that likely reflect the author's academic research and her signature organizational perspective. Visually, the most maddening "improvement" on reality is the "Accounting Equation Worksheet," a needlessly abstract variation on a common theme. Here it is a single Mondrianesque color-coded chart that combines the various financial statements, but without the contextual benefit of what they actually look like. There are myriad better, clearer versions online, and thank goodness for the internet! Perhaps the publisher is too cheap to print examples of real statements for step by step real examples or believes these dopey conceptual matrices effectively differentiate their product in a competitive market; to me, the burdensome and ubiquitous Worksheet renders the overpriced and equally fussy My Accounting Lab add-on all but useless. A week into the course, I gave up trying to understand the book and rely instead on simple, straightforward, professionally written online articles, many of them by academics with a more practical objective - to teach real people accounting as efficiently as possible. I would not recommend this book to instructors whose their jobs rely in part on student eval scores. To professors, textbook authors and other royalty generators, consider the adult end-user whose goal is right work and use your brilliance not to showcase, but to simplify.

but I love where the author was going

There were some typos and stuff, but I love where the author was going. I expected to laugh at a quick, shallow parody of neckbeard stereotypes; "miladies" and "ponies", but the characters - even the neckbeards - were three-dimensional and complex. The writer is gifted in writing suspense and surprises and that makes the humor even better. I'd feel like I was reading some mystery or super-natural novel, only to be brought back by a nerd screaming about being "friendzoned". It was great.

I also love the way that the writer looks at friendzoning and the red pill, and in general how nerds relate to women; the nerds in question are actually written sympathetically, as the author describes having been like them at one point, but the book also points out the flaws in their logic. I can't give anything away, but I do encourage you to read it for yourself.

It could use some polishing and some wording is confusing. I would encourage the author to proofread multiple times in future writings, but the story, atmosphere, and characters are spot-on.

This book was good, and maybe if I forward it to m'lady she'll take the hint and be m'waifu! ;)

Note: neckbeard culture is nauseating.

There were a lot of editorial errors, and some unintentionally fragmented sentences, and a lot of mistakes that seem like they could have been avoided with an extra read-through, though it is not clear whether or not the author's first language is English so I can let some of that slide. The author also seems to be somewhat undecided on the "neckbeard" culture, portraying it as sympathetic and deplorable by turns, giving a fair amount of "screentime" to tirades about how "all women are like that", while still having other characters refer to such statements as misogynistic. There are threads that are put in but never really picked up on, and things that seem rather hastily put together, like the author just turned in a first draft.

Even despite these flaws, I found myself genuinely enjoying it, and wanting to keep reading. A revised edition may do better.

Great figures

This is a good atlas for someone who has some familiarity with skull base/temporal bone anatomy. The illustrations provide a very clear view of the key steps in each procedure without bogging the reader down with "too much anatomy." Attempting to perform the procedures; however, should not be attempted without a good understanding of the anatomy not shown in the figures.

Overall, a great book that shows the "bottom line" steps for each approach extremely well.

One of the best anatomical approach atlases I've seen. If you want to learn skull base surgery this book is a must own. When cross referenced with cadaveric and intraoperative photos, it would be hard not to learn these approaches (this book is all step wise drawings).

He thought it was funny and I don't know if it helped

I bought this book when it first came out 15 years ago for a young friend who was glued to the tv too much of the time. He thought it was funny and I don't know if it helped, but it seemed like a good way to tell him what I thought about too much tv rather than the usual Charlie Brown adult gibberish kind of comment. Now I have a couple of grandsons who are glued to their iPads way more than they should be (in my elderly opinion) and I've ordered it again...Besides that, I'm a major Chris Van Allsburg fan. His illustrations are excellent and one of my main requirements when buying picture books for my children and now grandchildren is that the art in them is probably going to influence their aesthetics later on, so it had better be the best.
